Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn
Arriving in Natlan, the Traveler and Paimon discover a nation unlike any other: its Pyro Archon is a human, its Statue of The Seven refuses to grant the Traveler Pyro, and yet the local energy called Phlogiston answers their touch. They befriend Kachina, a timid young warrior of the Children of Echoes whom the Wayob chose as an Ancient Name bearer — and who has just been abandoned by her team on the eve of the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame.
Through Kachina they meet the wavechaser Mualani, the Saurian hunter Kinich, and his loudmouthed companion Ajaw. The Pilgrimage, they learn, is no mere tournament: its victors earn the honor of fighting the Abyss in the Night Warden Wars, protected by the Ode of Resurrection that revives fallen Ancient Name bearers through the Sacred Flame. As outlanders may not compete, Mualani partners with Kachina instead.
In the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, Kachina and Mualani fight through the team stage, and Kachina defeats her doubters in the duels — until the bracket pits her against Mualani herself. Refusing to hold back, Mualani pushes Kachina to prove her strength, and Kachina prevails, earning her place in the coming Night Warden War. The act closes as the Pyro Archon Mavuika personally welcomes the Traveler, revealing she has been expecting them, and the chosen warriors march against the Abyss.
After this Kachina wins her place in the coming Night Warden War, and the human Pyro Archon Mavuika personally receives the Traveler, revealing she has been expecting them.
